Culture & Leadership

Remember what it was like to be sitting in a classroom wondering what you were going to do with the rest of your life? The possibilities were exciting, scary and somewhat overwhelming, right?

Well, last week, a few members of the DMA team had the pleasure of visiting several classrooms at Texas A&M University, full of young adults wondering the same thing. During our two days on campus, Dan’l, Mackenzie and I met with students in majors ranging from Agricultural Economics and Communications to Marketing and Advertising. Really, we were there to speak about our business of “marketing.” But, it turns out that the students had a lot of great questions about the produce industry (hooray!) that we felt obliged to answer in the classroom and share below.

The Fightin’ Texas Aggies have long been muses and an inspiration of ours and we’ve written about them multiple times over the years.

If I had to pick only one thing in this world to love, it would be handmade art. Which is probably why I answered an emphatic “YES!”, when my college professor, Suzie Garner, asked me to submit some of my own handmade artwork for the Second Annual 4x6/6x4 Postcard Exhibit held at my alma mater, Colorado Mesa University. Art is such a huge part of my life, both personally and professionally, that “no” was never even a consideration.

“Dan’l, would you support an event specifically for women in the fresh produce industry?”

Starting the New Year off with resolutions is a common occurrence for me. Over past few years my go-to resolutions have consisted of eating fresh and exercise. But this year I wanted to do something different, something generous and inspiring.

Then it hit me.

Relevancy hinges on having the right content and the right content can only be concluded by our fan, follower and visitor reaction to what we produce. The challenge is that relevancy is a dynamic creature, driven by human interaction and reaction.

Below is a short checklist of questions to help ensure your marketing stays relevant and effective in the coming year.
