Many people, when asked to associate colors with the month of March, will answer an array of greens in honor of St. Patrick or a pastel palette to match Easter eggs. Not me. I see visions of royal blue, orange, black, and variations of gray and white. That’s MADNESS, some may say, and they’re right. My entire month is consumed by March Madness, the name given the hype surrounding the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
I actually suffer from this madness year-round, but it peaks in March when I am glued to college basketball coverage and determined to finally beat my sister (MY SISTER!!) in our annual bracket challenge. But I’m blinded by blue as I pencil in Duke University as the national champions year after year. You can laugh at my true blue loyalty – my friends and family certainly do – but I have a pretty good winning percentage over the past 20+ years!
The official Duke University blue (Pantone color number 287) is complemented perfectly by the orange and black of the basketball. It’s as if they were MEANT to become a dynasty in the sport. And #287 also exudes a royal hue when matched with home white jerseys or away grays. I really can’t think of a more appropriate color scheme for this month and I can’t wait for my Duke Blue Devils to win their fifth national championship on April 8th!
Any other college basketball fanatics out there? Who’s filling out a bracket? Stay tuned to join our bracket challenge group… Guess who I’m gonna pick to win it all?!?
